More and more organizations are engaged in the transition to Agile working. This often does not go without a struggle and the Agile Coach has made its entrance for a few years.

Is a change coach

The transition to Agile working requires a change in the attitude and behavior of all those involved. This is quite a job that requires a centipede. An Agile coach has the skills to manage this change.

 

With experience and knowledge

There is no blueprint for successful Agile working. Every situation is unique and must be approached as such. Successful Agile work means doing what it takes and that often goes beyond the ability to deliver methodologies.

The transition to Agile working requires a change in the attitude and behavior of all those involved.

This is quite a job that requires a centipede. An Agile coach has the skills to manage this change.

The Agile coach is a trainer and change specialist at the same time, so he will choose his role according to the situation.

The first challenge of the Agile Coach is to inspire and enthuse a team for Agile working. This can best be done through training. In most cases the team learns the basics with Scrum, but can also focus on Kanban or Agile project management, for example.

If the team is enthusiastic to get started with a certain Agile method, the Agile Coach will clearly show the added value of the method.

"As the team increasingly experiences the benefits of smarter collaboration, the Agile Coach takes a step back and lets team members go through the process independently as much as possible".

Ultimately, the Coach will no longer work for but together with the team. If the team can work independently with the method, the Agile Coach will take more distance and remain available on call.

A team is never completely isolated in an organization. In addition, a team outside the organization often has important relationships (such as customers or users).

"As an Agile Coach I try to organize the communication and information exchange as optimally as possible. This allows the team to achieve optimal results".

At a relationship level it becomes clear that Agile working is more than, for example, a set of meetings and roles. Agile is a mindset that must be embedded in the culture of an organization. This transcends the team you initially started with.

If the Agile Coach has the team and relationship level in order, attention can be paid to the organizational level. An organization has a limited amount of resources, which makes it necessary to set priorities.
