The “P” in PM is as much about ‘people’ management as it is about ‘project’ management.” – Cornelius Fichtner
Why a project coach?
The Coach as support for teams in agile working methods has become more and more known in recent years.
A good thing but the question that then arises is, why is this important? What is the added value?
The answer can be found in the desire for 'self-organization' of teams composed of specialists in product development. The self-organizing capacity cannot be taken for granted and challenges the team members to switch from task to target workers. The coach can support this process and is now indispensable in many environments.
In projects this task is reserved for the project manager. The project manager is the jack of all trades responsible for matters such as: communication, stakeholder management, planning, progress monitoring, creating support and motivating, inspiring and facilitating all those involved. The list of tasks of the project manager is much larger and here too the project manager sometimes runs up against his / her limit. This can be especially challenging when different working methods are used such as agile product development.
The project coach can play a supporting role in this. The project coach focuses on:
- Developing set goals
- Provide support resources where necessary
- Promote the need for change
- Removing obstacles to implementation
- Develop skills
- Advise from experience
- Make conflicts negotiable and transparent
And more...
If your project team also needs to spar with an experienced expert of no direct interest, with a people-oriented specialist who takes the context of the project into account in the design and approach and who is there to help you make it into a successful project, please contact us.
